A Civil War Reenactment is as close as you
can come to turning on a machine and traveling back in
time. When you step onto the
site, you are stepping back 135 years into history. The
reenactors are dressed in exact reproductions of the
uniforms worn in the Civil War, and they are trained in
the battle tactics that were used. Although these
hobbyists work as delivery drivers, lawyers, paramedics,
and history professors during the week, on weekends they
live as the soldiers lived, work as the soldiers worked,
eat as the soldiers ate, and fight as the soldiers
fought. Many reenactors have studied the Civil War in
depth and are happy to answer questions from the public
-- not just about battles, generals, and dates; but what
it felt like to be there, and historic events that
happened in your own back yard. In short, reenacting is a
way to remember our past and honor the heroic deeds of
our ancestors. |
